Skills
Students in Certified Nurse Assistant are trained in the following subject areas:
- Caring for patients and helping with such daily activities as bathing and dressing
- Performing basic nursing responsibilities, including taking and recording vital signs and turning and positioning patients
- Controlling infections
- Understanding and following safety and emergency procedures
- Understanding how to care for patients with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease
Requirements
Before entering the program, students must:
- Comply with state requirements that may involve a criminal background check and completion of a training program meeting federal content requirements.
- Complete the core curriculum with passing scores on all written and performance tests.
- Meet basic academic requirements in math and reading.
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Register with the state regulatory authority.

Students who complete a program in the Healthcare training program can earn nationally recognized credentials from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) and a state-issued credential/license.
