Academics
In addition to career training, Miami Job Corps also provides academic training, including basic reading and math. Courses in independent living, employability skills, and social skills are offered in order to help students transition into the workplace. We also have several academic programs to help our students achieve their full potential.
GED/High School Diploma
One of our top goals at Miami Job Corps is to ensure that every qualified student obtains his or her GED/high school diploma prior to leaving the center. Students who don't already have a high school diploma upon their arrival at Miami can enroll in our GED program.
Students may also enroll in charter high school classes taught by Penn Foster, New Summit, and the School for Integrated Academics and Technologies (SIATech). These high school programs award diplomas to students who meet the standards of competency set by the State of Florida.
Driver's Education
Driver's Education is available to all students needing their driver's license.
Advanced Career Training
The Advanced Career Training (ACT) program gives students the opportunity to receive advanced education/technical training. Students in the ACT program may attend Miami-Dade Community College or Miami Lakes Technical Education Center. ACT students may also participate in other Job Corps center programs such as the Transportation Communications Union (TCU), the Treasure Island Advanced Culinary Arts Program, and Cleared Job Corps Advanced Automotive Training.
Students who have shown outstanding achievements in their academic and career technical training may be recommended for the ACT Program by their instructors, counselor, and may request consideration from the ACT Coordinator. To qualify for the ACT program, a student must:
- Be enrolled 180 days in Job Corps with good attendance
- Have completed a career technical training program
- Have a GED or high school diploma
- Meet testing requirements
- Have a high level of maturity and show the ability to work independently and reliably
- Have a good disciplinary record
